Srinagar, December 25,2025-In a major boost to renewable energy adoption, over 3,000 solar rooftop systems have been installed across Srinagar under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, officials said. The initiative aims to promote clean energy, reduce electricity bills for households, and strengthen sustainable power generation in the region.
The scheme has witnessed a positive response from residents, with many households opting for rooftop solar installations to meet their domestic power needs. Officials from the power department said the installations are helping consumers generate their own electricity while contributing surplus power back to the grid.
Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, beneficiaries receive government subsidies to install solar panels on their rooftops, making the transition to renewable energy more affordable. The programme is also expected to reduce dependency on conventional power sources and lower carbon emissions in the city.
Authorities noted that Srinagar’s growing solar capacity aligns with the government’s broader vision of promoting green energy and ensuring energy security. Awareness drives and facilitation centres have been set up to encourage more households to enroll under the scheme
With thousands of installations already completed, officials said the focus now remains on expanding coverage and accelerating rooftop solar adoption across other parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
