Srinagar, December 6,2025: Jammu & Kashmir is set to introduce policy reforms and a scientific strategy aimed at scaling up its medicinal plant sector, officials said. The initiative seeks to leverage the UT’s rich biodiversity and promote sustainable cultivation, processing, and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants.
Authorities highlighted that the sector has immense potential to generate livelihood opportunities in rural areas, strengthen traditional knowledge systems, and contribute to healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. The proposed measures include the establishment of medicinal plant clusters, modern nurseries, value-addition units, and training programs for farmers and entrepreneurs.
Officials stressed the importance of scientific cultivation practices, quality standards, and export-oriented strategies to enhance competitiveness in both domestic and international markets. The reforms are part of J&K’s broader vision to promote sustainable agriculture, rural entrepreneurship, and eco-friendly industries.
The government aims to make Jammu & Kashmir a leading hub for medicinal plants in India, ensuring economic growth while conserving its natural resources and biodiversity.
