Ganderbal, December 5,2025: In a heartfelt tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Martyr Rameez Ahmad, the Ganderbal Police on Sunday inaugurated the Martyr Rameez Ahmad T-20 Cricket Tournament at the Qamaria Sports Stadium, drawing enthusiastic participation from local youth and cricket enthusiasts across the district.
The tournament, organised under the Civic Action Programme (CAP), aims to encourage sportsmanship, promote community engagement, and honour the memory of the brave police officer who laid down his life in the line of duty. Senior police officers, civil society members, and family members of the martyr were present at the opening ceremony.
Speaking at the event, officials highlighted that such initiatives not only pay homage to fallen heroes but also provide a constructive platform for youth to showcase their sporting talent. They said the tournament reflects the police department’s commitment to strengthening police–public relations through sports and cultural activities.
The opening match witnessed an energetic contest between local teams, setting a spirited tone for the weeks ahead. A total of several teams from different parts of Ganderbal are scheduled to compete in the knockout-format tournament, with the final match expected to attract a large audience.
Family members of Martyr Rameez Ahmad expressed gratitude to the district police for remembering their son through a positive and meaningful event. They said such gestures keep the legacy of bravery alive and inspire the younger generation.
The Ganderbal Police reaffirmed their resolve to support youth-focused initiatives and promised more sporting and community-oriented programmes in the future.
