J&K: Women in Tral Earn with Dignity- MNREGA Gives Them Financial Independence This work is part of MNREGA scheme and we have our job card said a female doing labour work in Tral, Jammu & Kashmir. We come in the morning around 10 am and we are not a burden for our family. We earn our own money with our own hands, this is the benefit, we don’t sit at home. The government has taken a good step We consider this a job too, said the female labour. And we’re proud to earn our own money. Construction work in this area falls under MNREGA. Here, males and females participate equally well. Since 2005, MNREGA is ongoing. Panchayat Secretary Aashaq Hussain says every year we do work worth 40-50 lakh rupees. The mothers and sisters here, they want to participate.They say they do not want to depend on their husbands and family for money. Money is transferred in their accounts and they are leading a life with dignity. I would also request other women of the village to come to work so that they remain healthy and can also earn benefits, said the female worker. During snowfall, work stops for two to three days but resumes again after that. The job card holders can work in their own village. There are 237 job card holders here. I request those who are not participating to join the work and earn for their own benefit, said the Panchayat Secretary.
