Tangmarg,November 2025:The famed Drung Waterfall, known for its spectacular frozen formations in winter, is once again drawing crowds after reopening to visitors. Tourists from across India and abroad flocked to the site this week, mesmerised by the icy cascades, snow-draped rocks and the chilled mist that turns the entire gorge into a natural winter wonderland.
Local guides and tourism stakeholders expressed gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for facilitating the reopening of the tourist spot ahead of peak winter. They said the administration’s timely intervention — including restoration of pathways, safety measures, and improved visitor management — has revived the area’s tourism economy just as the season begins.
Visitors said the waterfall’s frozen beauty feels “straight out of a postcard,” with many sharing videos and pictures online, further boosting interest. Hotels and homestays in Tangmarg and nearby Gulmarg reported an early surge in bookings, a welcome sign for winter tourism.
Tour operators noted that reopening Drung ahead of December helps distribute tourist footfall beyond Gulmarg’s ski slopes, creating opportunities for local workforce, pony operators, guides and small vendors. Many emphasised that preserving and promoting natural sites like Drung strengthens Kashmir’s reputation as a four-season destination.
As temperatures continue to fall, the waterfall is expected to develop its iconic icicle walls in the coming weeks — a spectacle that annually attracts thousands of winter travellers.
