Udhampur, November 25,2025: The Wildlife Department in Udhampur has launched an intensified, multi-pronged strategy to curb the growing human–bear conflict in Panchari and its surrounding areas, following a series of recent attacks that have triggered fear among residents.
Range Officer Mahesh Abrol said that the department is actively monitoring vulnerable zones and responding swiftly to distress calls.
“Bear’s terror has spread throughout the Panchari area… Three cases have been filed: one in Mir, one in Panchari, and one in Landhar,” Abrol stated, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
He added that field teams are conducting regular reconnaissance, including lighting crackers, patrolling, and using deterrent methods to push wild animals back into forest zones.
“This is our department’s constant endeavour. I appeal to people not to leave their homes in the evenings and mornings. Don’t go out alone. Move in groups of two or four,” he urged, calling for community cooperation to minimise risks.
The department is also working on strengthening awareness campaigns, advising residents on safety protocols, and coordinating with local bodies to address hotspots where bear movement has increased.
With winter approaching and food scarcity pushing wildlife closer to human settlements, officials say vigilance is crucial to preventing further incidents.
