Kashmir, November 22, 2025-The Jammu & Kashmir High Court has dismissed the bail application of an accused who has been in incarceration for the last four years in a case registered under the NDPS Act, observing that drug traffickers inflict a deadly blow on the youth and pose a grave threat to society.
The court noted that offences related to drug trafficking are of a serious nature and have a deep and destructive impact on young people, making it imperative for the judiciary to adopt a strict approach while dealing with such cases. It emphasised that the rising drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir requires strong deterrence to safeguard the future of the region’s youth.
The accused, who was arrested four years ago, had sought bail on various grounds, including prolonged detention. However, the court held that the severity of the allegations, coupled with the potential societal harm caused by narcotics offences, outweighed the submissions put forth in the bail plea.
The High Court further underlined that granting bail in such cases could send a wrong signal and undermine efforts aimed at controlling the spread of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in the region.
With the dismissal of the bail plea, the accused will continue to remain in judicial custody as trial proceedings move forward, reinforcing the judiciary’s firm stance against drug-related crimes in Jammu and Kashmir.
