Smart, Sustainable & Scientific: The Future of Indian Agriculture Begins at SKUAST Kashmir Today, not only was there an induction programme for the students at SKUAST Kashmir, but there was also a grand celebration of the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha in his address. The changes in Kashmir in the last three to four years have brought about such a transformation that you are seeing a glimpse of a ‘mini India’ in this campus today, LG said. Not only is it a ‘Mini India’ but today, students from other countries are also studying in SKUAST Kashmir, LG stated. The Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji has provided such support to SKUAST Kashmir that today it has established its identity as the topmost agricultural university in the country. And today, SKUAST Kashmir is providing full support in innovation and policy making for the agricultural future of India and also discharging its duties. I am confident that the unique growth of SKUAST Kashmir will also ensure the growth of the students, LG sttaed. And by setting clear goals, students will also be able to achieve their true potential. Agriculture has been the backbone of the Indian economy for a long time, LG added. And it has also played the most important role in national income and national employment generation. Our country has registered an average annual growth of 5% in agriculture and allied sectors for the last six to seven years. In a self-reliant and developed India, we now need smart agriculture and modern, scientific sustainable farming to achieve our goals as quickly as possible, LG voiced. Today, more than seven thousand startups have been started at the national level in agriculture and allied sectors. And the number of agritech startups in it has also increased to more than three hundred, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha.
