Srinagar, October 31, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday accused certain individuals of spreading false narratives to confuse the public regarding the restoration of statehood, asserting that the Union government has a well-defined timeline for the process.Addressing a gathering at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the occasion of Union Territory Day, Sinha said, “Some people are trying to mislead the public on the issue of statehood restoration. The roadmap is clear: delimitation first, then elections, and statehood at an appropriate time.”He emphasized that the Union Territory administration already possesses adequate powers for governance and development, urging political leaders to focus on public welfare rather than creating unnecessary controversy.
Centre’s Stance Reaffirmed
Manoj Sinha referred to assurances given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament, reiterating the sequence of delimitation, assembly elections, and eventual statehood restoration. “There is no ambiguity. The process is constitutional and time-bound,” he added. The LG’s remarks come in the backdrop of growing demands from regional political parties, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has linked the early restoration of statehood to effective governance and democratic empowerment.Sixth Anniversary of Article 370 AbrogationThe event also marked the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 on October 31, 2019. Sinha described the day as the “dawn of a new era” for Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the end of discrimination, integration with mainstream India, and significant decline in terrorism.Paying homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary, Sinha said, “The unity and integrity that Sardar Patel envisioned for India is now fully realized in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Run for Unity and Development Showcase
As part of the celebrations, LG Sinha flagged off the Run for Unity, administered a unity pledge, and inaugurated a photo exhibition on Transformative Governance and a documentary titled Viksit Jammu Kashmir. He noted that except for law and order and certain administrative transfers, all powers rest with the elected UT government. “We must use these powers for transparency, accountability, and inclusive growth,” he urged.Call for Constructive PoliticsSinha appealed to all stakeholders to rise above political rhetoric and contribute to building an aspirational Jammu and Kashmir. “Peace has returned, investment is flowing, and youth are dreaming big. Let us not derail this progress with misinformation,” he said.
The LG’s strong message aims to counter speculative narratives and reinforce public confidence in the Centre’s commitment to democratic restoration and development in the region.
