Banihal, October 27,2025: The 7th District Fencing Championship held in Banihal, Ramban district, witnessed an impressive display of talent and determination as young fencers from Ramban showcased exceptional skills, securing top positions across multiple categories.
Organised under the banner of the Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), the event drew participants from various schools and sports clubs across the district.
The championship, aimed at promoting fencing as a competitive sport in Jammu and Kashmir, featured individual and team events in foil, épée, and sabre categories for both boys and girls.
The young fencers from Ramban displayed remarkable agility, technique, and sportsmanship. Several new faces emerged as promising talents, earning praise from coaches and officials alike.
Chief Guest, District Youth Services & Sports Officer Mr. Swaran Singh, congratulated the winners and participants, emphasising the importance of sports in shaping disciplined and confident youth.
“Ramban’s youth are making their mark in sports like fencing, which requires precision, patience, and mental strength. Their success today reflects the growing sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Parents and spectators also applauded the organisers for providing rural athletes a platform to compete at the district level, fostering confidence and competitive spirit among youngsters.
The event concluded with medal and certificate distribution to the winners, followed by a pledge to encourage more girls and boys to take up fencing as a professional sport.
Officials said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports, in coordination with the J&K Sports Council, plans to provide advanced fencing equipment and coaching support to nurture emerging talent from rural areas like Ramban and Banihal.
The championship not only celebrated sporting excellence but also strengthened the message that Jammu and Kashmir’s youth are excelling in diverse fields beyond mainstream sports.
