Kulgam, October 18,2025: Breaking long-held beliefs, agricultural scientist Zahoor Ahmad Reshi has successfully cultivated high-quality saffron in Kulgam, challenging the myth that the prized spice grows exclusively in Pampore.
Reshi’s innovation marks a significant step in diversifying saffron cultivation across new regions of Jammu and Kashmir, opening doors for farmers in South Kashmir to adopt saffron farming as a viable source of income.
Talking about his success, Zahoor Ahmad Reshi added, “It is a myth that saffron can be grown in Pampore alone. With scientific methods and proper soil preparation, Kulgam can also yield high-quality saffron.”
Agriculture experts say this innovation has the potential to increase the upscaling of saffron farming, with local economies, agri-innovation, and Kashmiri saffron’s global prestige benefiting from it.
