Kashmir, October 15,2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced that India will send a Sanskrit teacher to the Gandan Monastery in Mongolia next year to undertake an in-depth study of ancient Buddhist texts and promote cultural and knowledge exchange between the two nations.
The initiative aims to strengthen India-Mongolia cultural ties and revive the shared Buddhist heritage that connects the two countries for centuries. The Sanskrit teacher will engage with scholars at Gandan Monastery — Mongolia’s most prominent centre of Buddhist learning — to research, interpret, and document ancient manuscripts rooted in the Indian spiritual and philosophical tradition.
Prime Minister Modi emphasised that this step reflects India’s commitment to preserving ancient knowledge systems, promoting inter-civilisational dialogue, and enhancing academic cooperation in Buddhist studies.
The decision is expected to deepen collaboration between Indian and Mongolian educational and monastic institutions, fostering a stronger bond through the study of Sanskrit and Buddhist philosophy.
