Srinagar, October 5, 2025 – This October, Craft City Srinagar will come alive with stories of hands that create magic, as the Handicrafts and Handloom Department launches the ‘Know Your Artisan’ campaign, a vibrant celebration of Kashmir’s timeless artistry under the ‘Soulful Kashmir’ brand. The immersive series invites the public to connect directly with national award-winning artisans, sharing personal narratives, unveiling intricate techniques, and fostering conversations at iconic venues like Jhelum Riverfront on October 11, Clock Tower Lal Chowk on October 25, and Heritage Bridge Rajbagh on October 30.
Visitors will witness live demonstrations, from the rhythmic click of looms in Pashmina and Kani weaving to the delicate carving of walnut wood, alongside other GI-registered crafts like carpet weaving, papier mache, and Khatamband ceilings, highlighting the soul of Kashmir’s heritage. The events emphasize QR coding for authenticity verification, ensuring genuine Kashmiri pieces reach global audiences, while showcasing Srinagar’s status as a UNESCO Creative City and World Craft City. Special student interactions with legendary craftsmen aim to inspire the next generation to preserve and innovate these traditions, with free access promising cultural immersion, storytelling, and discovery for all. This initiative not only boosts local artisans but also promotes sustainable livelihoods and Srinagar’s unparalleled contributions to global craftsmanship.
