BDO Leads ‘Waste to Wonder’ Mission in J&K’s Marh — Turning Waste into Wealth Kiran Deep Kaur, Block Development Officer (BD0) Marh said that a Waste to Wonder stall was installed in Jammu & Kashmir’s Marh region. The basic concept being that whatever waste we generate in the Gram Panchayat, how can we bring them into a usable form so that cluttering is reduced. And using the same material, we should make our Gram Panchayats impeccable and add more aesthetic sense, said the BDO. We are converting biodegradable and non biodegradable materials into useful products like compost, bio-fertilisers and we have converted polythenes into bags which we call ‘rag to bag’ initiative, said a worker. The items meant for waste come out in our panchayats, in our homes and pollute the neighbourhood. We brought a thought to it that through our children, through our self-help groups, and through our people who are active in the Panchayats and in the field of cleanliness. We had a waste blanket and we made bouquets out of blankets. We made planters from leaking drums. We made stools out of tyres to sit in parks, roadsides and passenger sheds. Waste is not just waste. It is basically wealth. If we commercialize and sell these articles that we have created, then think how much revenue can we generate? Channel your potential and your ideas into these kinds of things, and you can profit from them, said BDO Marh Kiran Deep Kaur.
