Srinagar, October 4,2025: The electric vehicle revolution is slowly making its way into the Kashmir Valley, as more residents and businesses are embracing sustainable mobility solutions. With rising fuel prices and growing awareness about environmental conservation, the demand for electric cars, two-wheelers, and e-rickshaws is on the rise across Jammu and Kashmir.
Government initiatives such as subsidies on EV purchases, installation of charging stations, and the push for green mobility under the National Electric Mobility Mission are encouraging local adoption. In Srinagar and Jammu, new charging points are being set up at public places, malls, and fuel stations to facilitate hassle-free charging for commuters.
Young entrepreneurs and delivery service providers are increasingly turning to electric scooters and bikes, citing lower maintenance costs and zero-emission travel. Taxi operators in the Valley are also showing interest in electric fleets, highlighting the economic and environmental benefits.
Experts believe that the transition from petrol to power will not only reduce the region’s carbon footprint but also create new opportunities in the renewable energy and transport sectors. However, challenges such as limited charging infrastructure in rural areas and high upfront costs remain hurdles to widespread adoption.
Residents, meanwhile, are optimistic. “With time, EVs will become the future of Kashmir’s roads. It’s clean, cost-effective, and necessary for our environment,” said a Srinagar-based EV owner.
As Jammu and Kashmir gears up for a greener tomorrow, the shift from petrol to power signals a new era of mobility in the Valley.
