Srinagar, September 28, 2025 – Amid the vibrant energy of martial arts prowess and cultural harmony, the 3rd Asian Junior Pencak Silat Championship has become a resounding celebration of unity in diversity. Young athletes from India and 10 other nations have converged at Srinagar’s iconic Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, forging bonds of camaraderie through fierce competition in this prestigious event.The championship, running from September 25 to 30, 2025, was officially inaugurated on September 26 by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who hailed the occasion as a milestone for Jammu and Kashmir’s burgeoning role in international sports. “We take great pride in hosting you here and choosing Srinagar as the venue for this prestigious Pencak Silat championship,” Abdullah remarked, emphasizing the sport’s inclusive spirit that draws equal participation from boys and girls. He underscored the essence of sportsmanship: “This game teaches us discipline and respect for our opponents. Your opponent is not your enemy, but an opponent only.”
Over 200 young competitors, aged under 18, are showcasing their skills in categories such as Tanding (fighting), Tunggal (single artistic), Ganda (pair artistic), and Regu (team artistic), blending athleticism with traditional artistry rooted in Southeast Asian heritage. Delegations from countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and host nation India have filled the arena with cheers and applause, highlighting the unity in diversity that transcends borders.Local pride soared as five talented students from Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar earned spots on India’s national team, a historic feat for the institution. Principal Shafaq Afshan expressed elation: “This is a remarkable accomplishment and a proud moment for the entire DPS Srinagar community.” Their selection underscores the growing grassroots interest in Pencak Silat among Kashmir’s youth, bolstered by enhanced training facilities from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.The event, organized by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation in collaboration with the Asian Pencak Silat Federation, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Sports Authority of India, kicked off with a colorful march past, cultural performances showcasing Kashmiri traditions, and a thrilling demonstration by the athletes.

One Indian athlete shared, “Today, we are facing Asia’s best right here in Srinagar,” while another praised the preparation: “The Sports Council has provided us with excellent training facilities and coaching camps.
