Doda, September 26, 2025 – In a spirited initiative to foster environmental consciousness and civic pride, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda, Shri Harvinder Singh (IAS), spearheaded a large-scale cleanliness drive in Doda Town . The event, held under the aegis of the District Administration, saw enthusiastic participation from government officers, representatives of various NGOs, sanitation workers, and local citizens, highlighting the power of collective responsibility in building a cleaner and healthier community. The drive commenced at 9:00 AM from the historic Doda Main Market, with participants fanning out across key areas including the bus stand, municipal parks, and along the Chenab River banks. Armed with brooms, gloves, and waste collection bags, the diverse group worked in unison to remove accumulated litter, clear drainage channels, and plant saplings to enhance the town’s green cover. DC Harvinder Singh personally led a team in the central bazaar, interacting with residents and emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in everyday life.
Addressing the gathering post-drive, the Deputy Commissioner commended the active involvement of all stakeholders and reiterated the administration’s commitment to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan principles. “Cleanliness is not just a duty but a shared responsibility that reflects our collective ethos. Today’s effort is a step towards making Doda a model of hygiene and sustainability,” Singh stated. He urged continued public participation in such initiatives to combat urban pollution and promote eco-friendly habits. In a gesture of appreciation for their tireless efforts, DC Singh oversaw the distribution of disaster relief kits to sanitation workers on the frontlines. Each kit contained essential items such as raincoats, gloves, masks, first-aid supplies, and thermal wear, tailored to support them during adverse weather and emergency situations. Over 150 workers from the Municipal Council Doda received these kits, with officials from the Social Welfare and Revenue Departments facilitating the smooth handover.NGOs like Live For Others-Being Helpful Foundation and local groups such as the Doda Youth Club played pivotal roles, bringing in volunteers and awareness materials.
The event also featured short educational sessions on waste segregation and water conservation, engaging schoolchildren and youth to amplify its impact. This cleanliness drive aligns with ongoing district-wide efforts to improve public health infrastructure, coming on the heels of similar activities in areas like Bhaderwah and Khalleni earlier this year. Authorities anticipate follow-up audits to sustain the momentum, with plans for monthly community clean-ups in the pipeline. The initiative not only beautified Doda Town but also strengthened community bonds, underscoring the role of grassroots participation in governance.
