Jammu, September 20, 2025– Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir next week on a one-day schedule to assess the damage caused by recent floods, a BJP leader here said on Saturday.Jammu and Kashmir BJP General Secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul, confirmed the planned visit, stating that PM Modi will tour the union territory during Navratras, with dates currently being finalised. The Prime Minister’s visit to the flood-affected areas of both the Jammu division and the Valley is expected to take place during the Navratra festival, beginning on September 22, although the exact date is yet to be decided. The announcement comes amid ongoing recovery efforts following relentless rains that triggered flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides across the region in recent weeks.
A central team has already completed a preliminary assessment of the damage caused by the heavy downpours, which disrupted connectivity, damaged infrastructure, and impacted agriculture in both divisions.Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Jammu to review the flood situation and coordinate relief measures. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary echoed expectations for substantial central assistance, noting that the recent floods have caused extensive damage in the region.During the visit, PM Modi is likely to conduct aerial surveys of severely affected areas, evaluate ongoing relief efforts, and announce a special financial package to support victims and rebuilding initiatives.
The relief package will be formulated after the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) submits its detailed report to the Central government. The floods, exacerbated by swollen rivers like the Jhelum and seasonal rivulets, have led to road blockades, including the critical Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, and suspensions in rail services. Apple farmers in the Kashmir Valley have expressed concerns over delays in transporting produce during the peak harvest season due to these disruptions. This visit underscores the Central government’s commitment to aiding flood-hit northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, which have been grappling with monsoon fury since late August.
