Srinagar, September 12, 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association has announced the much-anticipated selection trials for aspiring martial artists, scheduled to take place on September 22 and 23 at a prominent sports venue in Srinagar. This event aims to identify talented participants for upcoming national and state-level competitions, promoting the ancient Manipuri martial art form of Thang-Ta, which combines sword and spear techniques with unarmed combat.Thang-Ta, recognized as one of India’s traditional martial arts, emphasizes physical fitness, discipline, and cultural heritage.
The trials will be open to youth and senior categories, with participants expected from across the Union Territory. Officials from the association highlighted the importance of such events in nurturing young talent and preserving the art’s legacy in the region.The selection process will involve rigorous demonstrations of Thang (sword) and Ta (spear) forms, along with fitness assessments. Successful candidates will represent J&K in national championships, fostering greater participation in indigenous sports. Sports enthusiasts and parents are encouraged to register early through the association’s official channels.This initiative aligns with the government’s push for promoting traditional sports under the Khelo India program, contributing to the holistic development of athletes in Jammu and Kashmir.
