Sanitation Awareness Program organised in Mawer Qalamabad under Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen

Kupwara, September 7: The Department of Rural Sanitation, Jammu and Kashmir, organised a sanitation awareness program in Block Mawer Qalamabad, District Kupwara, under the ambit of *Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G). The initiative focused on promoting cleanliness, sustainable waste management, and reinforcing the achievement of *ODF+ Model status in the area.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from community members, who carried banners and placards promoting #Swachhata Hi Seva and the importance of waste segregation. Resource persons highlighted the role of collective community action in sustaining the momentum of the cleanliness mission and emphasized adopting scientific waste disposal practices at the household level.

Officials from the Department of Rural Sanitation stressed that achieving and maintaining ODF+ Model status requires continued community ownership and behavioral change. “The goal is not just infrastructure creation, but building a sustainable sanitation ecosystem in every village,” said an official spokesperson.

The program also served as a platform to spread awareness on the significance of hygiene, solid and liquid waste management, and active participation in government-led initiatives. Residents pledged their support to uphold the values of Swachh Bharat Mission and contribute to making their villages clean, green, and healthy.
