Srinagar, September 04, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted an extensive visit to flood-affected areas in Srinagar and Budgam districts, inspecting the damage caused by a breach in the Jhelum River embankment at Shalina near Lasjan. Braving floodwaters, the Chief Minister reached submerged interiors by boat to assess the situation firsthand and interact with affected residents, assuring them of the government’s full support.Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLAs from Chadoora, Chanapora, and Lal Chowk, along with senior officials including Additional Chief Secretary Jal Shakti Shaleen Kabra, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, and Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Kashmir, Abdullah prioritized rescue operations, evacuation, and relief efforts. He directed the administration to establish temporary shelters equipped with safe drinking water, food, and medical facilities for affected families.
“The immediate priority is to rescue people from inundated areas, evacuate them to safer locations, and provide instant relief,” Abdullah said. He urged residents to follow administration advisories and cooperate with rescue and relief operations.Highlighting the absence of loss of human life due to timely evacuations, the Chief Minister acknowledged significant financial and property losses. He announced plans to request Union Home Minister Amit Shah to deploy a Central Government team to assess damages in Kulgam, Anantnag, Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Bandipora, and other affected areas, following their assessment in ten districts of Jammu.Abdullah emphasized the government’s responsibility to evaluate losses and ensure relief and rehabilitationmeasures. He also ordered the provision of potable drinking water and additional boats to evacuate cattle stranded in marooned sheds.
