Jammu, August 28, 2025 – In a proactive move to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply amid challenging terrains and weather conditions, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting today to assess the availability and distribution of petroleum products in the remote and far-flung areas of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). The session highlighted the need for robust supply chain management and infrastructure enhancements to mitigate logistical hurdles faced by residents in isolated regions.During the deliberations, Dulloo emphasized the urgency of streamlining the supply chain for timely delivery of essential fuel to remote locales. He underscored the importance of enhanced inter-departmental coordinationto build an efficient system capable of addressing the unique demands of these areas.
Key directives included strengthening distribution networks by setting up additional supply points in high-demand zones and exploring innovative solutions such as mobile fuel units to overcome geographical barriers and harsh weather disruptions.To bolster stock reserves, the Chief Secretary instructed oil companies to maintain a minimum of 15-20 days’ worth of stock at depots and outlets across J&K. Specifically, he called for 20 days’ stock at depot levels and 15 days at retail outlets in the Kashmir Valley, while ensuring 15 days at Jammu depots and 10 days at regional retail points. Priority was also directed for the movement of essential supply vehicles, including railway racks transporting petroleum products from Punjab to Jammu, to prevent delays.Dulloo further tasked Deputy Commissioners in districts like Ramban, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, and Kathua with closely monitoring stock levels and facilitating the swift clearance of stranded vehicles. A public awareness campaign was proposed to keep residents informed about fuel availability, distribution schedules, and emergency protocols.
Engagement with oil marketing companies was urged to expand storage capacities at strategic locations.The meeting, attended by Commissioner Secretary of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Saurabh Bhagat, along with representatives from Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and other officials, also spotlighted upcoming infrastructure developments. The State Level Coordinator highlighted the Common Utility Facility (CUF) at Bajalta, boasting a massive 1 lakh KL capacity, slated to become operational by December 2025. This facility is expected to significantly enhance the region’s petroleum storageand distribution capabilities.This review comes at a critical time, as J&K grapples with geographical challenges that often impede the distribution of petroleum products.
