Srinagar, August 25, 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Department of Social Welfare organized a one-day event titled “Empowering Communities – Welfare for All” at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar on Saturday, August 24, 2025. Led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for Social Welfare, Health, and Education Sakeena Masood (Itoo), the initiative aimed to strengthen welfare schemes for marginalized and vulnerable sections of society, including the elderly, women in distress, physically challenged individuals, malnourished children, and economically weaker communities.The event highlighted the department’s commitment to addressing deprivation and neglect among underprivileged groups, reinforcing J&K’s dedication to inclusive development.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the government’s focus on empowering communities through enhanced social welfare programs, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that every section of society benefits from targeted schemes that uplift and empower.” Minister Sakeena Itoo echoed this sentiment, stressing the importance of grassroots-level interventions to improve access to education, healthcare, and social support systems for sustainable growth.
The program featured discussions on key welfare initiatives, including the recruitment of Anganwadi workers, Poshan 2.0, and schemes for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes. Attendees included senior officials, community representatives, and stakeholders, who engaged in dialogues to refine and expand welfare policies. The event underscored the J&K government’s proactive approach to fostering equitable opportunities and social justice across the Union Territory.
