In the aftermath of the recent flash floods that caused widespread devastation in Kishtwar district, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited Chasoti village to personally assess the situation. His visit came as a reassurance to the people who have been struggling to cope with the destruction of homes, agricultural land, and basic infrastructure. During his interaction with the local residents, CM Omar Abdullah listened patiently to the pain and concerns of the affected families. Many shared how they had lost their belongings and livelihood overnight. The Chief Minister expressed solidarity with them, assuring that the government would take swift measures to provide relief and rehabilitation. In a unique step, Omar Abdullah also took a briefing from the Indian Army personnel deployed in the area. The Army, which has been at the forefront of rescue and relief operations, updated him about ongoing efforts to restore connectivity, distribute essential supplies, and assist stranded families. To get a clearer picture of the scale of the disaster, the Chief Minister even used a Virtual Reality (VR) headset. This innovative approach allowed him to virtually experience the extent of the damage, thereby helping in better planning of relief measures. The visit highlighted his commitment not only to stand with the people in their hour of grief but also to explore modern tools for effective disaster management. Omar Abdullah emphasised that rehabilitation of the victims would be a top priority, and the government would coordinate with various agencies, including the Army, civil administration, and disaster management authorities, to ensure timely support. The people of Chasoti village welcomed the Chief Minister’s presence, viewing it as a sign of empathy and responsibility. By directly engaging with the victims and frontline responders, Omar Abdullah reaffirmed that governance is not just about policies, but also about understanding and responding to the pain of the people.
