Pulwama witnessed a surge of sporting enthusiasm as the Indian Army launched a large-scale cricket tournament aimed at discovering and nurturing untapped talent. The event received an overwhelming response, with nearly 783 teams registering through an online portal — far exceeding the initial plan of 32 teams. Recognising the passion and potential on display, organisers decided to double the capacity to 64 teams. The matches are being hosted across four venues — Tumlahal, Ratnipora, Pulwama, and Newa — with each ground staging three matches a day. Games begin at 7:00 a.m. and conclude by 5:00 p.m., ensuring a packed day of cricket for players and spectators alike. Winners will receive a prize expected to exceed one lakh rupees. However, as the organisers stress, the tournament’s real prize is the opportunity it offers to play quality cricket and gain recognition. For many participants, this is more than just a sporting event — it is a dream come true. Young players who have never stepped onto Pulwama Stadium’s turf or played in professional-grade facilities now have a chance to showcase their skills. The platform is especially valuable for those who cannot afford to participate in larger tournaments yet possess the drive and ability to compete at higher levels. The Army’s initiative goes beyond sport. It is a bridge between the forces and the local youth, fostering mutual respect and community spirit. By creating opportunities for hidden talent to emerge, the tournament reinforces the belief that grassroots sports can be a catalyst for unity, confidence, and future success. If such events continue, they promise to not only raise the sporting profile of Pulwama but also inspire a generation of players to chase their cricketing dreams.
