Srinagar, August 6, 2025 — The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) has transformed the sporting landscape across Jammu and Kashmir, organising a vibrant series of sports events that have captivated students and schools alike. These initiatives are aimed at identifying budding sports talent, encouraging physical fitness, and nurturing team spirit and camaraderie among young players.
Over the past few weeks, schools across the Union Territory have hosted inter-school, inter-zone, and district-level competitions in a wide range of disciplines including football, cricket, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, athletics, and more. These events have witnessed enthusiastic participation from both boys and girls, promoting inclusive sports culture at the grassroots level.
“We believe sports play a vital role in character building and youth empowerment. Our aim is to create a structured pathway for young athletes,” said an official from the YSS Department.
By creating opportunities for competitive play and skill development, the department is ensuring that students not only improve their health but also gain valuable life lessons such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.
The sporting activities are being organised with the support of local administration and school authorities, ensuring smooth execution and maximum reach. Many participants have also been shortlisted for state-level coaching camps and national trials, providing a launchpad for promising young athletes.
The YSS initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of youth development through sports, enhancing both mental and physical well-being while strengthening the spirit of unity across communities.
