KUPWARA, JULY 29: In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir, Uznain, a young and determined athlete from the frontier district of Kupwara, has been selected to participate in the upcoming Junior Women’s Hockey Nationals. Her selection marks a significant milestone not only for her but for the entire region, where opportunities in national-level sports have traditionally been limited.
Hailing from a modest background, Uznain’s journey has been one of grit, discipline, and unwavering passion for the sport. Trained under the local sports development programmes and supported by her coaches and family, she stood out during state-level trials and earned her place in the Union Territory squad.
Speaking about her selection, Uznain expressed excitement and gratitude: “It’s a dream come true. I want to make my district and J&K proud. This is just the beginning.”
The District Youth Services and Sports Office Kupwara lauded her achievement and emphasized that such success stories are an inspiration for many young girls in the region. Officials highlighted that more efforts are being made to promote women’s participation in sports and provide platforms to showcase local talent.
Uznain will now train with the UT team before heading for the Junior Women’s National Hockey Championship, where she will compete against top players from across the country.
