Jammu, July 28 — Marking a strong push for environmental stewardship, the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir today participated in the Van Mahotsav 2025 celebrations held at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The annual tree-planting festival saw the participation of students, environmentalists, government officials, and members of civil society.
In his keynote address, the Chief Minister stressed the urgency of environmental conservation in the face of accelerating climate change, and called for transforming tree plantation into a People’s Movement across the Union Territory.
“Let every school, every village, and every city in Jammu & Kashmir lead by example. We need a collective will to protect our forests, conserve our water, and heal our planet,” the CM urged.
The event highlighted the Government’s commitment to forest protection, eco-restoration, and sustainable development. He also emphasised the role of green initiatives in building climate resilience and improving the quality of life for future generations.
Saplings of native species were planted by students and volunteers in the theatre compound, symbolizing the deep-rooted connection between the people of J&K and their natural environment.
“We must act now—not only for ourselves but for our children and grandchildren. Van Mahotsav is not just a day to plant trees; it’s a reminder of our responsibility to the Earth,” the Chief Minister said.
The administration also announced plans to scale up the Green J&K Drive, promoting afforestation, urban green spaces, and conservation awareness campaigns across districts in partnership with local bodies and educational institutions.
