Drass, Kargil, July 26: In a heartwarming gesture on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, school students tied Rakhi on the wrist of General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, paying tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers.
The event was filled with emotion and patriotism as children, holding national flags and messages of gratitude, interacted with the Army Chief during his visit to honour the martyrs of the Kargil War. The symbolic Raksha Bandhan ceremony highlighted the bond of love, trust, and respect shared between citizens and the Indian Army.
General Dwivedi, who took charge as Army Chief earlier this year, expressed his deep appreciation for the students’ gesture and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and peace.
“The love and trust of our younger generation inspires us to remain ever-ready to protect our motherland,” General Dwivedi said, acknowledging the warmth and spirit of unity shown by the children.
The Kargil War Memorial continues to serve as a powerful reminder of the valor, sacrifice, and patriotism of India’s bravehearts during Operation Vijay in 1999.
