New Delhi, July 26: On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the nation solemnly remembered and paid heartfelt tribute to the brave martyrs of Operation Vijay, who laid down their lives while defending the sovereignty of the motherland during the Kargil War in 1999.
Commemorative events were held across the country, with leaders, defence personnel, and citizens paying homage to the Kargil war heroes whose valour and supreme sacrifice ensured India’s victory against enemy forces in the treacherous heights of Kargil, in Jammu and Kashmir.
“This day reminds us not only of the extraordinary courage of our soldiers, but also of the strength and sacrifice of their families. We honor the mothers, wives, and sisters who lost their world so the nation could live in peace,” said a defence official during a remembrance ceremony.
Wreath-laying functions and patriotic performances took place at war memorials, most notably at the Dras War Memorial in Ladakh, where the names of fallen soldiers echo in the heart of the nation’s gratitude.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every year on July 26, marks the end of the conflict and stands as a symbol of India’s indomitable spirit, military strength, and national unity.
