Srinagar, July 26: The Meteorological Department (MET) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and potential flash floods across various regions of Jammu and Kashmir from July 28 to July 30, urging residents and authorities to stay vigilant.
According to the MET advisory, a strong Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Union Territory, bringing intense rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds, particularly in the Pir Panjal range, Chenab Valley, and Kashmir Valley. Low-lying areas, hilly regions, and water bodies are at heightened risk of flash floods, landslides, and water logging.
“From July 28 onwards, there is a high probability of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Travellers, pilgrims, and residents in vulnerable zones are advised to exercise extreme caution,” a MET official said.
The advisory has raised concerns over potential disruptions in the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, as the pilgrimage routes from Pahalgam and Baltal may be impacted by poor weather and unsafe trail conditions. Local administration and disaster response teams have been asked to remain on high alert.
Authorities have also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during the alert period and keep emergency kits ready.
