Kashmir Ahead

J&K LG Manoj Sinha orders phased reopening of tourist spots from june 17, 2025

Srinagar, J&K – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the reopening of several iconic tourist destinations in the Kashmir and Jammu Divisions, effective from June 17, 2025. The decision comes after a temporary closure of these sites as a precautionary measure due to security concerns, including the recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The phased reopening aims to revitalize the region’s tourism sector, a critical driver of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, while ensuring the safety of visitors.

The first phase of reopening includes popular sites such as Betab Valley, Pahalgam Market Parks, Verinag Garden, Kokernag Garden, and Achabal Garden in the Kashmir Division. In the Jammu Division, destinations like Badamwari Park, Duck Park, Taqdeer Park in Srinagar, Sarthal, Dhaggar in Kathua, Devi Pindi, Siyad Baba, Sula Park in Reasi, Guldanda, Jai Valley in Doda, and Pancheri in Udhampur will welcome tourists again. LG Sinha emphasized that the reopening will proceed in a controlled, phase-wise manner to balance tourism revival with public safety.

“Jammu and Kashmir’s natural beauty and cultural heritage are its pride. The reopening of these tourist spots reflects our commitment to restoring normalcy and boosting the local economy while prioritizing safety,” said LG Manoj Sinha in a statement.

The decision follows a detailed security assessment by the J&K administration, with enhanced measures in place to ensure visitor safety. Local authorities have been directed to implement strict protocols, including increased surveillance and coordination with security forces, to prevent any untoward incidents. The tourism department is also launching a campaign to promote these destinations, highlighting their scenic beauty and cultural significance to attract both domestic and international tourists.

The reopening is expected to provide a significant boost to local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and tour operators, which have faced challenges due to the temporary closures. “This is a much-needed step. The closure of Betab Valley and other spots hit us hard, but we’re hopeful tourists will return,” said Mohammad Ashraf, a local tour operator in Pahalgam.

The J&K administration has assured that additional tourist destinations will be reopened in subsequent phases, based on ongoing security evaluations. Visitors are encouraged to follow guidelines issued by local authorities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
