Jammu, June 9, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the disbursement of over ₹6 crores to more than 19,000 Divyangjan in Jammu and Kashmir, addressing a critical gap in pension distribution caused by incomplete Aadhar screening. The initiative, launched on June 6, 2025, aims to bring transformative change to the lives of beneficiaries by restoring their financial support and empowering them through access to essential services.
Speaking at an event in Jammu, LG Sinha emphasised the administration’s commitment to inclusivity, stating, “Today, more than ₹6 crores have been distributed to those whose Aadhar screening was not done and their pensions were not passed. Assistance has been provided to more than 19,000 Divyangjan. It will bring a significant change in their lives.” The funds, transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer , ensure transparency and efficiency in reaching eligible recipients.
In addition to the pension disbursal, Sinha inaugurated a mass distribution drive of aids and appliances for Divyangjan, organised by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu, under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and Assistance to Disabled Persons schemes. The initiative provides wheelchairs, hearing aids, motorised scooters, and other assistive devices to enhance mobility and independence for senior citizens and specially-abled individuals. “This reflects our belief in the unique abilities and resilience of Divyangjan, ensuring equality and accessibility for all,” Sinha noted.
The event underscores the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s broader mission to empower Divyangjan, aligning with national efforts led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to foster dignity and self-reliance among specially-abled communities. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the Union Territory has streamlined processes for issuing Unique Disability ID (UDID) certificates, with over 176,000 issued to date, facilitating access to benefits. The administration has also achieved near-100% saturation in distributing motorised scooters and established a temporary Composite Regional Centre in Jammu for skill development and rehabilitation.
LG Sinha’s focus on Divyangjan empowerment extends beyond financial aid. At the Purple Fest 2025 in March, he called for inclusive education and skilling programs, urging stakeholders to ensure equal opportunities. The administration has also requested the Government of India to organize mega camps in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions to further support specially-abled individuals.
The ₹6-crore pension disbursal and assistive device distribution mark a significant step toward social equity in Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing the government’s commitment to leaving no one behind. By addressing Aadhar-related delays and providing tailored support, the initiative not only restores financial security but also uplifts the dignity and potential of thousands of Divyangjan across the Union Territory.
