Srinagar, May 21, 2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference 3 Working Committee convened a significant meeting today at the party headquarters, Nawa-i-Subah, in Srinagar, chaired by JKNC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah. The meeting, attended by Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with members representing the Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh regions, focused on strategising the party’s agenda and addressing key regional issues following the recent assembly elections.
The committee reviewed the JKNC’s recent electoral success, securing 42 seats in the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, enabling the formation of a coalition government with the Indian National Congress (INC) and other allies. Discussions centered on implementing the party’s manifesto, which outlines priorities for the next five years, including the restoration of statehood, economic development, and addressing unemployment, healthcare, and tourism challenges in the Union Territory. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized the party’s commitment to bridging regional divides and fulfilling the mandate given by the people, who rejected the 2019 abrogation of Article 370.
The meeting also addressed ongoing security concerns, particularly in light of the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, with the committee reaffirming its support for strengthened coordination with security forces to ensure peace and stability. Farooq Abdullah called for collective efforts to advocate for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, describing it as a “big battle” requiring unified action. The presence of representatives from all three regions underscored the party’s focus on inclusive governance across diverse communities.
The JKNC Working Committee’s deliberations are seen as a roadmap for the Omar Abdullah-led government to navigate the complex political and security landscape while prioritizing justice, equality, and regional empowerment, in line with the party’s founding principles established by Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah in 1932.
