Budgam, May 19, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Akshay Labroo, conducted a site visit to assess the ongoing construction of the 125-bedded New District Hospital and the 100-bedded Critical Care Unit at Reshipora, Budgam. The inspection focused on evaluating the pace, quality, and coordination of the multi-departmental efforts driving these key healthcare projects.
Accompanied by the Chief Planning Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Budgam, Executive Engineers of R&B, Assistant Executive Engineers, and representatives of executing agencies, DC Labroo reviewed various components of the under-construction health infrastructure. The projects, aimed at bolstering healthcare services in Budgam, are progressing at an accelerated pace, with expectations of completion ahead of schedule due to seamless coordination among departments.
The 125-bedded District Hospital, approved by the Administrative Council under Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in September 2023 at an estimated cost of Rs. 49.32 crore, is designed to address the long-standing healthcare needs of Budgam’s residents. Once completed, it will provide state-of-the-art facilities, fulfilling the district’s demand for advanced medical care. The 100-bedded Critical Care Unit, part of the broader initiative to enhance critical care infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir, will offer specialized services, including ventilators, high-end beds, and trauma care facilities under one roof.
DC Labroo emphasized the importance of timely completion, stating, “With accelerated construction and multi-departmental coordination, the New District Hospital Budgam is likely to be completed before its scheduled timeline. These facilities will overhaul healthcare in Budgam, providing specialized and critical care services to the people.” He highlighted ongoing monitoring to address any challenges in real-time, ensuring seamless progress.
The District Administration, in collaboration with the Roads and Buildings Department and the Health Department, is working diligently to dedicate these facilities to the public at the earliest. The projects are expected to significantly enhance healthcare access, reduce patient rush, and provide critical medical services within the district, eliminating the need for referrals to Srinagar.
