Srinagar, May 7, 2025 – Kashmir University announced the postponement of all examinations scheduled for today, May 7, 2025, in response to heightened security concerns following the Indian Armed Forces’ Operation Sindoor, a precision strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The decision, communicated via an official notification, comes amid escalating tensions in Jammu and Kashmir triggered by the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 lives, including that of Shubham Dwivedi.
The university’s notification stated, “All examinations scheduled for today stand postponed,” without specifying new dates, advising students to monitor the official website and department channels for updates. The move follows the region’s volatile situation, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha actively overseeing security measures. LG Sinha, in a recent X post, detailed his coordination with senior officials and district collectors, stating, “Took stock of the situation in border districts of J&K UT… I’ve directed the DCs for shifting of villagers from vulnerable areas to safer locations and ensuring boarding, lodging, food, medicare and transportation. We will ensure safety of every citizen. Jai Hind!”
The postponement aligns with LG Sinha’s emphasis on citizen safety, as Operation Sindoor—launched to target terror infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen—has heightened regional alertness. Posts on X reflect the university’s decision, with outlets like Greater Kashmir and Rising Kashmir reporting, “Kashmir University has postponed all exams scheduled for today due to the current situation. New dates will be announced later.”
The Pahalgam attack’s fallout, coupled with Pakistan’s ceasefire violation in Bhimber Gali and the closure of northern airports like Srinagar, has created an atmosphere of uncertainty, prompting educational institutions to prioritize safety. Aishanya Dwivedi, widow of Pahalgam victim Shubham Dwivedi, expressed gratitude for the government’s response, including LG Sinha’s efforts, noting, “This is the real tribute to my husband.” Her remarks underscore the broader sentiment of seeking justice and security.
Kashmir University’s decision follows a precedent set on April 23, when exams were postponed due to a region-wide shutdown protesting the Pahalgam attack, and on May 3, for the NEET (UG) 2025 examination. While no suspension of classwork has been announced, the focus remains on ensuring student welfare amid ongoing developments.
LG Sinha’s proactive measures, including relocating villagers and fortifying border districts, complement the university’s cautious approach. As the region navigates the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, Kashmir University’s postponement reflects a commitment to safeguarding students while awaiting stabilization.
