Srinagar, May 1, 2025- The Union Ministry for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has granted a 15-day extension to the PMAY-G Awaas+ survey 2024, shifting the deadline from April 30 to May 15, 2025, to ensure comprehensive coverage of eligible rural households in Jammu and Kashmir. This development, coupled with robust security measures led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the inspiring academic success of student Tabish Mushtaq, underscores J&K’s commitment to progress amid challenges posed by terrorism.
The PMAY-G Awaas+ survey, aimed at identifying households for pucca housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), has made significant strides in J&K, with 4,74,076 potential beneficiaries surveyed as of April 30, 2025. Rajouri district leads with 55,489 surveys, followed by Poonch (52,568) and Kupwara (41,629). The extension to May 15 addresses challenges in remote and snowbound areas, ensuring no eligible household is overlooked. “This extension will enable better coverage of rural beneficiaries,” an official statement from the Ministry noted, emphasizing the use of the Awaas+ 2024 mobile application for verification.
This housing initiative aligns with J&K’s broader efforts to foster stability and development, as evidenced by a high-level security review meeting chaired by LG Manoj Sinha on April 30, 2025. Joined by Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and senior officials, Sinha reiterated the region’s resolve to combat terrorism. “It is the collective resolve of the people of J&K and the nation to destroy the root of terror emanating from our neighborhood,” he stated, directing officials to strengthen the security grid following the recent Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives. DGP Nalin Prabhat outlined ongoing counter-insurgency operations, emphasizing coordinated efforts to ensure public safety.
Amid these challenges, the academic achievement of Tabish Mushtaq, a Commerce stream student who scored 493 marks in recent board examinations, serves as a beacon of hope. Crediting his success to hard work, focus, and determination, Tabish remarked, “Staying consistent and goal-oriented can overcome any obstacle.” His story, widely celebrated in J&K, highlights the resilience of the region’s youth, who continue to excel despite security concerns.
The PMAY-G Awaas+ survey extension to May 15, combined with proactive security measures under Manoj Sinha and Nalin Prabhat, and the inspiring example of Tabish Mushtaq, reflects Jammu and Kashmir’s multifaceted approach to building a secure and prosperous future. As the region advances housing for the underprivileged, counters terrorism, and nurtures academic excellence, it demonstrates an unwavering commitment to progress.
