Against the tranquil backdrop of Srinagar’s Dal Lake, the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre came alive with the “Noor-e-Sama” Sufi Conference, a profound celebration of Sufism’s timeless legacy. Organised by Sufi Score Limited in collaboration with the Save Youth Save Future Foundation, the event drew Sufi scholars, spiritual luminaries, and devotees from across the region and beyond to honor Sufism as a radiant force of peace, love, and harmony. At its heart was a stirring address by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, whose words underscored Sufism’s transformative potential in a world yearning for unity. In his keynote speech, LG Manoj Sinha described Sufism as more than a spiritual practice—it is “a way of life” anchored in “a bond of love with all creation and an intimate relationship with the Divine.” He portrayed Sufism as “the ultimate art of dissolving divisions and weaving hearts together,” a philosophy that transcends boundaries to foster compassion and coexistence. “Sufism stands as the most powerful force for peace and harmony in society,” he proclaimed, emphasising its teachings of inner purification, empathy, and devotion as antidotes to discord and fragmentation. He highlighted Sufism’s historical role in Jammu & Kashmir as a bridge between communities, fostering mutual respect and shared humanity. “This path has the power to unite people across all backgrounds,” he said, urging attendees to embrace Sufi principles to counter extremism and divisiveness. He stressed that Sufism’s rejection of violence and prejudice makes it a universal beacon for societal awakening, offering a roadmap to heal a fractured world. A key focus of the Lieutenant Governor’s address was engaging younger generations with Sufism’s message of interconnectedness. He proposed innovative approaches, such as leveraging digital platforms—social media, podcasts, and videos—to share the soulful poetry, music, and teachings of Sufi masters like Rumi and Kashmir’s own Lalla Ded. Additionally, he advocated for mentorship programs led by Sufi scholars to guide youth toward spiritual and cultural enrichment, ensuring that Sufism’s wisdom remains vibrant in the modern era. “Let us bring the light of Sufism to the digital age, inspiring young hearts to embrace love and unity,” he urged. The “Noor-e-Sama” conference was a tapestry of vibrant discussions, soulful recitations, and reflections on Sufism’s role in nurturing universal peace. Attendees delved into its teachings of divine love and inner transformation, reaffirming Srinagar’s storied legacy as a cradle of Sufi thought and cultural pluralism. From the mystic verses of Bulleh Shah to the devotional qawwalis echoing through the hall, the event was a testament to the region’s rich spiritual heritage and its enduring capacity to inspire hope. LG Manoj Sinha lauded the organisers for their dedication to promoting Sufism’s values, expressing confidence that such initiatives would strengthen societal bonds and cultivate a compassionate world. He framed the conference as a milestone in Jammu & Kashmir’s journey toward peace and progress, reflecting the administration’s commitment to harnessing the region’s spiritual and cultural legacy to build a harmonious society. “Sufism is not just our past; it is our path to a hopeful future,” he said. The event concluded with a resounding call to embody Sufism’s principles of love, unity, and divine connection in everyday life. Attendees left inspired, carrying the message of peace to their communities and beyond, with renewed resolve to make Sufism’s vision of a united humanity a reality.
