Kabra reviews implementation progress of Jal Jeevan Mission in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 7: Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) for Jal Shakti, chaired a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) across Kashmir province. The meeting was attended by Dr. G.N. Ittoo, Managing Director of JJM; Chief Engineers of PHE and I&FC for Jammu and Kashmir; Director Planning; Superintending Engineers; Executive Engineers; and other relevant officials.

During the meeting, the ACS conducted a detailed review of the JJM’s progress, including the development of water sources, electro-mechanical works, Har Ghar Jal certification, and the status of ongoing projects under CAPEX and NABARD schemes. He also examined consultant and third-party monitoring reports to assess the effectiveness and implementation on the ground.

While expressing satisfaction with the progress made, Kabra emphasized the need for faster execution of works and improved coordination between the various agencies involved. He directed that the Jal Jeevan Mission be completed within the assigned timeline.

The ACS specifically highlighted the importance of completing the Har Ghar Jal certification process as a priority and called on the MD JJM and Superintending Engineers to expedite this effort. He also stressed the need for maintaining high-quality standards in the execution of projects, urging officers to ensure transparency by making all project details, including e-tendering processes, publicly available.

Kabra further directed the officials to accelerate ongoing work at major project sites and utilize modern technology for real-time monitoring of water quality and distribution. He also emphasized the importance of promptly addressing any grievances related to water quality.

In his presentation, the MD JJM provided a detailed update on the status of the mission’s implementation across the Kashmir region.
