UDHAMPUR, DECEMBER 05 – In a concerted effort to enhance road safety across the district, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, chaired a comprehensive review meeting with officials from various departments. The discussions focused on strengthening road safety measures and addressing key challenges such as traffic enforcement, accident prevention, and road maintenance.
The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the enforcement of traffic rules, identification of accident-prone “black spots,” road safety audits, and strategies for reducing road accidents. Key issues like overloading, speeding, rash driving, and traffic congestion on busy routes were also extensively discussed. The officials deliberated on measures such as the installation of clear signage and the implementation of awareness programs aimed at educating the public on road safety.
During the review, the Deputy Commissioner was briefed on the identification of several black spots in the district. Remedial actions to address these areas are already underway, with coordination from relevant departments. To further reduce accidents, the Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY were directed to prioritise regular maintenance of roads.
The Traffic Police were tasked with collaborating closely with local police to regulate traffic flow, reduce congestion, and ensure that overloaded vehicles are strictly controlled for the safety of commuters.
Highlighting the crucial role of public awareness, DC Saloni Rai emphasised the need for expanding road safety campaigns and called for stronger enforcement of traffic laws. She urged the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) and traffic authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards violations such as overloading, speeding, and driving without helmets, with penalties to deter offenders.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to ensuring safer roads, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of coordinated efforts and effective implementation of safety measures to protect the citizens of Udhampur.
