Constitution Day celebrated with enthusiasm in Udhampur

UDHAMPUR, NOVEMBER 26: In a grand celebration of Constitution Day, the Ambedkar Welfare Organization Trust Udhampur hosted an impressive event at Ambedkar Chowk to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly. The event was attended by a large and diverse gathering, including prominent figures, senior officers from the District Administration, and members of the general public.

The ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, who served as the chief guest. A key moment of the program was the collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution, aimed at fostering awareness about the Constitution’s importance and the fundamental values it upholds.

In his address, the Deputy Chief Minister paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, and underscored his immense contributions to the nation’s social and political framework. He expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants for hosting the event and urged everyone to embrace the principles of social equality and justice championed by Baba Saheb.

The Deputy Chief Minister remarked, “Constitution Day reminds us of our duties and responsibilities as citizens. It reinforces our commitment to the rule of law and inspires us to contribute to the welfare of society, particularly the poor and marginalized.” He highlighted that the Constitution, adopted on November 26, 1949, guarantees justice—social, economic, and political—for all citizens, creating a foundation for a just and equitable society.

Civil society members used the occasion to raise several pressing concerns. They submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister, which included demands for the allotment of land to marginal farmers, identification of a suitable site in Udhampur Town for constructing an Ambedkar Bhawan, reservation in promotions for SCs and STs, and filling up the backlog of vacancies in reserved categories. The Deputy Chief Minister listened attentively to these issues and assured the gathering that their genuine concerns would be addressed on a priority basis.

The event also featured students from various educational institutions and civil society members who highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy as a social reformer, visionary leader, and architect of India’s democracy. The program was further enlivened by cultural performances by school students, which received widespread appreciation from the audience.

This Constitution Day celebration in Udhampur served as a powerful reminder of the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution and the ongoing commitment to social justice and equality for all.
