Since childhood, Farooq Ahmed Mir has been a dedicated social activist, advocating for the rights of the people. Although he distanced himself from politics for years, the situation in 2014 compelled him to act. Witnessing the widespread political pressure and rights violations, he realised that if someone with his resources and courage remained silent, the most vulnerable would suffer even more. This realisation motivated him to re-enter politics, aiming to represent the marginalised. He firmly rejects the notion that politics involves seizing land by force. To him, politics should be about integrity and genuinely working for the welfare of the people. In Tangmarg and Gulmarg, the lack of thoughtful planning has harmed the local community. He has developed a roadmap specifically to address the needs of the unemployed youth in Gulmarg. By introducing new technologies and creating job opportunities, he aims to revitalise the region’s horticulture industry, restore the famous cherry and strawberry crops, and improve infrastructure. For him, real progress involves tackling issues like clean water and healthcare, rather than making empty promises. With faith in Allah and the people, he is committed to bringing meaningful change. His leadership will be characterised by action, dedication, and a genuine effort to improve the future of Gulmarg.
