Srinagar, November 3,2025: In a remarkable display of endurance, determination, and courage, 9-year-old Maham has etched her name in the annals of Kashmir’s sporting history by successfully completing a 21-kilometre marathon — an extraordinary feat that has inspired countless young hearts across the Union Territory.
The marathon, organised as part of the Kashmir Marathon 2025 event, witnessed participation from hundreds of runners from across India. However, it was the spirited run of young Maham that stole the show and won the admiration of spectators and officials alike.
Senior officers of the Central Reserve Police Force , who played a key role in ensuring the successful conduct of the event, lauded Maham’s performance. DIG CRPF described her as a “little champion with a giant heart”, applauding her indomitable spirit and perseverance.
“At just nine years old, Maham has achieved something extraordinary. Her determination to reach the finish line symbolizes the power of youth and the limitless potential of Kashmir’s next generation,” said the DIG CRPF while felicitating her after the run.
Maham, who trains regularly with local sports mentors, said she was inspired by professional athletes and wanted to challenge herself. “I wanted to prove that no dream is too big if you run with your heart,” she said, beaming with pride after crossing the finish line to a thunderous applause.
The marathon, held under the theme “Run for Peace and Fitness”, aimed to promote sports culture, physical wellness, and community harmony across Jammu & Kashmir. The event was supported by various government and sports organisations, including the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and the CRPF, highlighting the growing collaboration between civil and security institutions in nurturing local talent.
Parents, teachers, and fellow participants described Maham as a role model for her peers. Many praised her dedication, saying she trained every morning before school and remained focused on her goal despite the challenging terrain.
The event organisers presented Maham with a special Achievement Medal and Certificate of honour for her record-setting performance — marking her as one of the youngest participants ever to finish a half marathon in Kashmir.
The story of Maham’s triumph is being widely shared on social media, with hashtags like #LittleChampion, #KashmirMarathon, and #GirlPower trending across platforms.
