Rajouri, August 13,2026-Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri, organised a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on “Emergency Medicine in Active Border Areas: Shifting Paradigms” in collaboration with the 25th Infantry Division of the Indian Army.
The programme focused on strengthening medical preparedness and adapting emergency healthcare practices to the unique challenges of border areas, particularly in the context of Jammu & Kashmir, where healthcare professionals may have to respond to security-related incidents, mass-casualty situations and natural disasters.
Addressing the gathering, DIG Medical, FTR HQ Jammu, Dr Sukhjinder Singh, said the fundamental purpose of a CME programme is to propagate and share knowledge so that it reaches others and ultimately benefits patients and society.
He said the theme of the programme was highly relevant and contemporary, particularly in the context of Rajouri and the wider Jammu & Kashmir region, considering past security situations and mass-casualty incidents arising from events such as floods.
Dr Singh emphasised that in such situations, the entire approach to medical practice undergoes a significant shift. From a military perspective, he noted, effective medical care in active or high-risk areas must be closely aligned with sound tactical judgment.
The CME brought together medical professionals and representatives from the armed forces to exchange expertise and discuss strategies for managing emergencies in challenging operational environments. The programme highlighted the importance of coordination, rapid decision-making, trauma care and preparedness for mass-casualty incidents.
The initiative is expected to strengthen collaboration between civilian healthcare institutions and the Indian Army while enhancing the capacity of medical teams to respond effectively to emergencies in border and other high-risk areas.
