Srinagar, October 29, 2025 – The scenic valleys of Kashmir are gearing up for an exhilarating showcase of endurance and natural splendor as the 2nd Edition of the Kashmir Marathon prepares to kick off on Sunday, November 2, at 6 AM from the iconic Polo View in Srinagar. Organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department, this international sporting extravaganza has already shattered records with unprecedented registrations, including double the number of foreign runners compared to last year, drawing athletes from across the globe to experience the Valley’s breathtaking landscapes.Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who unveiled the official marathon merchandise on Tuesday at the Royal Springs Golf Course, extended a heartfelt invitation to fitness enthusiasts worldwide. “Kashmir is the only place in the country that offers such scenic beauty and ideal weather conditions for a marathon,” Abdullah remarked, highlighting the crisp autumn temperatures of 6–8°C that promise a refreshing contrast to warmer races elsewhere in India. He emphasized the event’s role in promoting health, tourism, and the region’s serene ambiance, urging participants to “test your endurance and immerse in Kashmir’s unique charm.”Building on the success of its inaugural 2024 edition—which featured Bollywood star Suniel Shetty as a brand ambassador and attracted thousands—the 2025 marathon promises even greater scale.
Registrations have surged, particularly in the Full Marathon (42 km) category, with international participants doubling from the previous year. The event features two main races: the grueling Full Marathon weaving through Srinagar’s cultural heart, including Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Chinar-lined boulevards, Hazratbal, and Kashmir University; and the Half Marathon (21 km) tracing iconic spots like the Jhelum riverfront, Lal Chowk, Dalgate, and the Dal Lake shore. Both categories are open to men and women, with age-group competitions adding to the inclusivity. The prize pool remains a major draw, mirroring last year’s generous offerings. Full Marathon winners stand to claim up to ₹25 lakh, while Half Marathon top prizes include ₹15 lakh for the overall victor, scaling down to ₹3 lakh for fifth place, with age-group awards of ₹75,000, ₹50,000, and ₹25,000. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, who reviewed arrangements on October 25, stressed the event’s potential as a flagship for youth fitness and tourism promotion.
“This marathon will not only foster sportsmanship but also spotlight Kashmir’s hospitality and cultural richness,” Dulloo stated during the high-level meeting.Preparations are in full swing, with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg overseeing comprehensive logistics on October 23. Highlights include a command and control center for real-time coordination, 17 medical aid stations along the route, a field hospital at Polo View for recovery, a water ambulance on Dal Lake, and sanitation facilities throughout. A three-day exhibition of local products will complement the races, culminating in a joint medal ceremony at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). Director Tourism Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob, detailed the operational blueprint, ensuring seamless route management, volunteer deployment, and publicity. As the Valley’s autumn foliage paints a vibrant backdrop, the Kashmir Marathon is poised to transcend sports, becoming a celebration of resilience and beauty. With its blend of athletic challenge and picturesque vistas, the event underscores Jammu & Kashmir’s emergence as a premier destination for global fitness events. Runners and spectators alike are set for an unforgettable Sunday, where every stride tells a story of inspiration and discovery.
