Srinagar, November 3,2025- The 22nd Senior National Soft Tennis Championship 2025 was inaugurated with great enthusiasm and fanfare at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar, marking yet another milestone in the Union Territory’s growing sports calendar.
Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Soft Tennis Association under the aegis of the Soft Tennis Federation of India (STFI) and supported by the J&K Sports Council, the championship has brought together top-ranking athletes from across the country. Teams from more than 25 states and union territories are participating in this week-long event.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by senior officials from the J&K Sports Council, representatives of STFI, and other dignitaries from the sports fraternity. The event commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and the oath-taking ceremony by participating players, symbolising the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence.
Inaugurating the championship, a senior official from the J&K Sports Council welcomed the participants and lauded the efforts of the organisers for bringing national-level sporting events to the Valley. “Hosting the 22nd Senior National Soft Tennis Championship in Srinagar reflects Jammu and Kashmir’s emergence as a hub for sports and youth talent. It also promotes tourism and strengthens the spirit of national integration through sports,” the official said.
Matches began soon after the inauguration, with players displaying exceptional skill, agility, and teamwork on the courts. The championship will feature men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events, with finals scheduled later this week.
Athletes and officials expressed appreciation for the hospitality and arrangements made in Srinagar, noting the scenic beauty and excellent sports infrastructure provided by the J&K Sports Council.
The event is expected to inspire local youth to take up emerging sports like soft tennis, contributing to the government’s mission of promoting sports excellence and grassroots participation in Jammu and Kashmir.
