Jammu, March 11,2026- The Jammu and Kashmir government has taken up development projects worth ₹423 crore in the Public Health Engineering and Irrigation and Flood Control sectors during 2025 to strengthen water supply and irrigation infrastructure across the Union Territory.
Officials from the Jal Shakti Department informed that several works have been initiated under the UT Capex Budget and other government programmes to improve access to drinking water, enhance irrigation facilities and strengthen flood management systems in different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The projects focus on upgrading existing water supply schemes, constructing new pipelines, improving pumping stations and modernising irrigation channels to ensure reliable water availability for both domestic use and agriculture.
Authorities said that the initiatives are part of the government’s broader push to expand infrastructure in the water sector and support rural development. Improved irrigation facilities are also expected to boost agricultural productivity and support farmers in many areas of the Union Territory.
Officials added that work on several projects is currently underway, while a number of schemes have already been completed and made operational. The government has directed departments to ensure timely execution of all works so that people benefit from improved water supply and irrigation services without delay.
The administration reiterated its commitment to strengthening the water management system in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting that investments in the PHE and I&FC sectors play a key role in ensuring sustainable development and improving the quality of life for residents.
