Srinagar, March 14,2026- The Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDD&PR) Department has sanctioned ₹195.96 crore to strengthen rural infrastructure and support programme staff under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act across Jammu and Kashmir. The financial assistance aims to accelerate development works in villages while ensuring smoother implementation of rural employment programmes.
According to officials, the timely release of funds will help boost ongoing development initiatives under MGNREGA, which plays a crucial role in providing wage employment and creating durable assets in rural areas. The allocation will also ensure adequate support for programme staff responsible for executing and monitoring various works at the grassroots level.
The funds are expected to strengthen rural infrastructure by facilitating the construction and maintenance of community assets such as rural roads, water conservation structures, and land development projects. These initiatives will not only improve living conditions in rural areas but also generate employment opportunities for local residents.
Officials said the move reflects the government’s continued commitment to enhancing rural livelihoods and improving basic infrastructure in villages across the Union Territory. With additional resources now available, district administrations and local bodies are expected to expedite the execution of approved works and ensure effective implementation of the MGNREGA scheme.
The release of ₹195.96 crore is also expected to improve administrative efficiency by supporting programme staff who play a vital role in planning, supervision, and monitoring of development works in rural areas.
